The 2017-18 Budget is Here!

The PTA has gotten our financial house in order.  We have a completed budget, a shiny new treasurer, and a budget! We need as many members as possible to join us in the library on October 4th at 6:00 to view and approve the budget.  The budget will be posted to Facebook and on our web page.  Please take a moment and look over it.

Spirit Night at Rita’s Ice

Thanks to all who came out for our School Spirit Night at Rita’s Ice! Several of us had to leave early for PTA training, but heard it was quite busy. Thank you for your school spirit and support. Thank you Rita’s Ice for your hospitality and support. It was a delicious way to start our year!

New PTA President Challenges us to DREAM BIG

It was a little discouraging at the end of the school year last year to end without an elected President.  But sometimes good things DO come to those who wait!  Over the summer our outgoing and interim president was able to recruit Mr. Don Weeks, who after careful thought decided to step up and serve.  Here are a few words from him to start our year.

It is a distinct honor to be asked to serve in a leadership position for the PTA.  My twin daughters had a wonderful experience in 6th grade and we are so thankful for the tremendous group of teachers and staff as well as Dr. Jenkins leadership. 😎 It’s important that I inform you of the work we must do to make KMS even better. There are numerous opportunities for you to be involved at a deeper level in your child’s education, while also supporting the great work of the staff and teachers.

One of the student award programs offered by the PTA is a citizenship essay. The 2018 theme is ” What does it mean to DREAM BIG”. Last year we had a 17% participation rate among parents in the PTA. Among teachers we had a 100% participation rate. This striking imbalance causes me to issue a “clarion” call to each of you to “DREAM BIG” as we labor together to make KMS a better place for all.

I’m asking you to immediately join the PTA and speak to any board member and offer your time & talent for the many exciting events we have planned. Let’s show the other schools in VB and across VA that we know what it means to ” DREAM BIG”. Thank you and I look forward to being in service with you soon.

August Planning Meeting

So we met once again last week to discuss our exciting plans for next year and man do we have a lot of great ideas.  For example, We will increase membership!  We will take our sponsored dances up a notch (or two).  There will be decorations;there will be an area to socialize; and, of course, there will be concessions. On Halloween, it will all glow…. In September, there will be a Brave’s Spirit Night at Rita’s Ice. There will be educational programs: Bullying/cyber-bullying and High school and Beyond Prep Night.  We want a giant games and other shenanigans night, a color run, a holiday craft fair, teacher’s luncheons and other appreciation, literacy prizes….to name a few.  We can only accomplish this if we have an army of volunteers!! We need you!  Don’t be all…..

What if….

PTA Still at It!

Summer is here and kids and teachers are out of school enjoying all that has to offer.  No doubt many are enjoying all that Hampton Roads has to offer and beyond.  Have you been to the beach or amusement park?  Have you been to summer camp?  Have you enjoyed some great time with your family and friends?  While the PTA board is enjoying all these things, summer is also a time to get a lot of work done!  We are busy behind the scenes making sure the year gets off to a great start.  Stay tuned here.  Information will soon begin to roll out!
