New PTA President Challenges us to DREAM BIG

It was a little discouraging at the end of the school year last year to end without an elected President.  But sometimes good things DO come to those who wait!  Over the summer our outgoing and interim president was able to recruit Mr. Don Weeks, who after careful thought decided to step up and serve.  Here are a few words from him to start our year.

It is a distinct honor to be asked to serve in a leadership position for the PTA.  My twin daughters had a wonderful experience in 6th grade and we are so thankful for the tremendous group of teachers and staff as well as Dr. Jenkins leadership. ? It’s important that I inform you of the work we must do to make KMS even better. There are numerous opportunities for you to be involved at a deeper level in your child’s education, while also supporting the great work of the staff and teachers.

One of the student award programs offered by the PTA is a citizenship essay. The 2018 theme is ” What does it mean to DREAM BIG”. Last year we had a 17% participation rate among parents in the PTA. Among teachers we had a 100% participation rate. This striking imbalance causes me to issue a “clarion” call to each of you to “DREAM BIG” as we labor together to make KMS a better place for all.

I’m asking you to immediately join the PTA and speak to any board member and offer your time & talent for the many exciting events we have planned. Let’s show the other schools in VB and across VA that we know what it means to ” DREAM BIG”. Thank you and I look forward to being in service with you soon.
